Unlike our Cleveland neighbors 40 miles to the north who have an abundant water reservoir in Lake Erie, we in Wadsworth must depend on local aquifers to draw our water supply. Our network of wells today is comprised of 12 wells that draw from bedrock aquifer in the City and in the River Styx buried valley aquifer to the west. View a map of where our water comes from today.
Replenishing Our Aquifers
Aquifers are constantly replenished by precipitation. Responsible water managers know that Mother Nature has cycles of high and low precipitation and plan for natural variation in those cycles. Over the past 10 years, in fact, our annual rainfall has been as low as 32 inches and as high as 50. Check out an illustration of Wadsworth's water cycle (PDF).
