Election & Service
Ward 4 Councilman Bruce Darlington has been elected to ten terms on Wadsworth City Council. He chairs the Public Service Committee and has done so since 2008, and currently serves on the Economic Development Committee and the Cable TV Commission. Mr. Darlington brings all of his expertise and knowledge of the community to each of Council’s standing committees, having served on all of them at some point in his Council career.
Prior to retiring in 1997, Mr. Darlington held the position of Senior Research Fellow at Mead Central Research where he specialized in technologies related to the processing and use of recovered paper fiber. He received a BA degree in Physics from Baker University and a Ph.D. in Inorganic/Physical Chemistry from the University of Kansas. Before joining Mead Corporation, he worked for Boeing Aircraft, Cessna Aircraft, Phillips Petroleum Co., and PPG Industries from 1961-1989, retiring as Senior Scientist. Dr. Darlington holds 33 US Patents. He has served on the Program and Library committees of the Akron Section American Chemical Society and on the Nomination and Program committees of the South Texas section of the ACS. He has served as Secretary of the Deinking Subcommittee of TAPPI and as Chairman of the Industrial Electrolytic Division of the Electrochemical Society. Mr. Darlington is a US Navy Veteran.
Dr. Darlington’s community involvement includes serving as President of the Wadsworth Kiwanis and Treasurer of the Akron Section of the American Chemical Society. He was a member of the Wadsworth Shade Tree Commission for 16 years. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Wadsworth United Methodist Church.
He grew up in Kansas and moved to Wadsworth in 1961. He has four children – Elizabeth, Bryan, Brent, and Julie – seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
