Statement on Water Concerns Due to E. Palestine Train Derailment

AS

Statement on Water Concerns Due to E. Palestine Train Derailment:

The City of Wadsworth's water supply has no issues due to the train derailment that happened 75 miles away in E. Palestine. Waters (both well and river waters) move away from Wadsworth towards the area of concern and not vice versa. For additional information, please see the Medina County's Health Department page at: https://medinahealth.org/east-palestine-trainderailment/?fbclid=IwAR0ANwuWFw57jO8RCMhlwmZ6rNdmq35S3Ms1fy-W1py7g3erFLEfxoSHFVc or call the Water Treatment Plant at 330-335-1581 ext 3002

Watershed Map and the Continental Divide:

The line separating the two watersheds in the map below is called the Continental Divide. All drops of rain water, river water, and well water north of the Divide (in blue) flows toward Lake Erie, everything below the line (in pink) flows towards the Ohio River. This shows that even though our water goes to the same place as E. Palestine (to the Ohio River), we are closer to the divide and therefore water from E. Palestine does not come towards us. All waterways below the line in the pink flow towards the Ohio River. We are also at a higher elevation than E. Palestine, so therefore showing another example that water will not flow towards us (water doesn’t flow uphill).
