Memorial Park Improvements

Being our premier and one of the largest parks in the city, it made sense to start with Memorial Park for much needed improvements. Mayor Laubaugh started the parks improvement idea a few years ago and received capital dollars from the State of Ohio to help offset construction costs for Memorial and Durling Parks.

Phase I:

In 2023, the first phase improvements will mostly take place in the active area of the northeast section of the park:

  • A new destination playground (to replace Kaleidoscope)
  • New Tennis courts (to replace the existing)
  • Pickleball courts
  • A basketball court
  • Improvements to Disc Golf Course
  • Re-paving of the Park Drive from Ault Street to Grandview Avenue

Phase II:

In 2024, the second phase of improvements will be constructed around the Memorial Pond area of the park:

  • A new Memorial plaza and memorial walk around the east side of the pond
  • A stage and hillside amphitheater that will double as a fishing platform
  • A new hillside nature play area on the east side of the pond
  • A new restroom and pavilion structure by the nature play area
  • New parking to accommodate the nature play area
  • New paved trails to connect amenities and parking

Future Phases:

Upon removal of the softball field at the active northeast area of the park, after the new Athletic Complex is built and the field usage can move, the following improvements are planned:

  • A splash pad
  • A new pavilion and restroom building
  • A new sand volleyball court
  • An open lawn
  • Additional parking lots
  • A vehicular parkway loop drive

Upon removal of the AC Baseball Field at the northwest area of the park, after the new Athletic Complex is built and the field usage can move, the following improvements are planned:

  • A new ice skating feature
  • A new pavilion and restroom structure
  • A new parking lot
  • New landscaping along College Street
